Please note: There may be health issues and medications not listed here that could also present health hazards. These are just the ones we know about.

Do Not Sweat if you...

• are pregnant;
• have any heart problems;
• have high blood pressure;
• have liver damage, e.g., from hepatitis or cirrhosis (you'll get nauseous almost immediately);
• have poison ivy/oak (if any trace of the oils is left on your skin, it'll get all over/into everyone and everything else in the sweat); or
• have asthma that requires regular medication.

Many modern medications, especially those that make it difficult for the body to cool down, are not compatible with sweat participation. If you're using a medication to treat anxiety or raise your mood, think twice about doing a sweat; paranoia and/or hallucinations have been observed during the physical/mental/emotional/spiritual stress of the sweat. Consult your prescribing medical professional about participating. If you're taking a psychoactive prescription medication, get your medical professional's sign-off before you participate in a sweat.
