Additional Information for Sweat Staff

Time: Sweats need to start and end on time. Sweats that run over have been a major source of attendee complaints. People may have workshop, workshift, or ritual commitments. Also, one sweat that runs over may affect every other sweat after it. We'll have a clock at the sweat site; ideally, pourers will ask for time checks, and firetenders will inform pourers if they're in danger of running over how?. Workshifts for people participating in sweats need to start and end on time, too.

Late arrivals: Most pourers are not willing to accomodate people who arrive after their sweat has started. You can smudge people who arrive late and tell them that you'll check with the pourer when the current round is complete, but make no promises. When the pourer calls for the door to be opened, ask then whether the late person can join.

Atmosphere: We ask attendees and pourers to be quiet and focused; we should be quiet and focused as well. We hold the space. Keep focused on what you're doing; if you need to, take a timeout. Remember that because we're there, we're effectively part of any sweat going on. Most sweats are for prayer, introspection, transformation, and/or healing; please support those purposes with your intent and focus.

Fire/Spirit Line: Please be mindful of the fire line, and try not to cross it (unless the pourer specifically says it's ok). If you accidentally cross it, pause, and focus your intent on re-estabishing the energy flow. Many traditions use "We are all related" or "The web is whole" to do this.

Rules: Know them and gently enforce them (minimal/quiet talking; no food; watch your mood; drink water; be careful of the fireline; don't play with the fire...)

Walk-up Help: If someone comes and offers help, send them to the coordinator on duty; please don't turn anyone away.

Repeat Attendees: We discourage attendees from going to more than one sweat. This is to make sure that everyone who wants to has a chance to. If someone shows up in case of a cancellation, they should come anytime for a second workshift and report the coordinator on duty when they arrive.

Problems: Tell the coordinator on duty as quickly as possible about any problem that arises.
