FSG Workshop/Ritual/Class Proposal Information & Guidelines
Please contact the P-Team if you have any questions.
Please Note: Unless we're saying "no thanks" to some or all of your classes, or we have questions, you will generally not hear from us until we have done the scheduling exercise, after which you'll get an early look at the grid (before we post the link for our attendees).
As in previous years, our schedule is set up in two-hour blocks. We tend to schedule classes that are longer than 2 hours starting at either 9:00a (running right until lunchtime) or after dinner. Also, if you send us several 1-hour classes, we will schedule at least two of them back-to-back in the same time block unless you specifically ask us not to and give us a good reason to commit a 2-hour slot to a 1-hour class.
Class time blocks are: 9:00a - 9:45a (for short physical classes like t'ai chi or yoga; yes, we know this overlaps the last part of breakfast), 10:00a - 12:00n, 2:00p - 4:00p, 4:15p - 6:15p, and either after ritual or 8:30p - late. The class schedule starts Tuesday afternoon. We usually have a meet & greet on Tuesday evening, a Bardic Circle Friday evening, and concerts/performances Thursday & Saturday evenings. Opening Ritual is Wednesday after dinner, Main Ritual is Friday after dinner, and Closing Ritual is Sunday after brunch. We do not schedule anything against the principal rituals of the gathering, and we generally don't schedule anything on Sunday. Check the Planning Grid for more information about how the schedule is put together and the available locations for classes. Times in shaded blocks are not available for scheduling.
As you consider what you would like to present at FSG, please keep the following in mind:
If we accept 2 items (about 4 hours), or if Kids' Programming accepts 1 item (about 2 hours), you are excused from further community service.
If we accept 4 items (about 8 hours), we will reduce your site fee to our cost.
If we accept more than 4 items, we will discuss further reductions to your site fee and/or other forms of compensation. If your presentation team has more than two people, we can't promise to extend site fee reductions to all of them, but we can usually work something out that works for you and for us.
We encourage you to submit sets of related classes. Some examples would be: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Tarot OR Divination: Scrying, Pendulums and Runes.
We don't promise to accept everything that you submit. We have enough time slots and locations to comfortably schedule approximately 120 items plus sweats and kids' programming. If you're available early in the week and you submit 4 or more classes, expect at least one of them to appear on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Your preferred time and/or location may not be available, and classes with small class limits will be scheduled in smaller venues. We will be generally reluctant to schedule a class with a 10-person limit by itself in the Tin Can or the Dance Pavilion.
We reserve the right to edit your submission for grammar, spelling, length and clarity.
If there's information we need to build the schedule, e.g., times you'll be offsite, people against whom you cannot be scheduled, and so forth, please include that in your proposal(s), or send us email. Mentioning this kind of into to one of us in passing will probably not be terribly effective.
Once we have built the schedule we will be very reluctant to change times/places. We will get confirmations out as soon as humanly possible after the scheduling exercise.
Please use the P-Team email address for all programming-related correspondence. If you send something to one of our personal email addresses, the information may not get to the people that need it on time (if ever).
If you want to propose an entire track, please keep the following in mind:
The maximum number of classes we can schedule without either counter-scheduling or going into evenings is 12, and at 12, one of them will be in the Tuesday afternoon slot.
We need names, email addresses, phone #s, first available time/unavilable times and bios for everyone presenting.
If you want to consult previous years' schedules, class lists, and/or presenter lists, they're here.
Our 2008 workshop submission deadline has passed. If you have something compelling that you think we should consider for 2008, send email to the P-Teamnow. For 2009, we'll probably close submissions on/about 08 May and build the schedule the weekend of 15 May. If you can, please use the web form to submit your proposal(s). If you email us a proposal package, please include the info we ask for on the form, including your phone #, email address, what day and time slot you'll be available to present your first class, and when you'll be unavailable. We also need the name(s), phone #(s), email address(es), available/unavailable times, and bio(s) of any additional presenters if they're not submitting proposals of their own. If you can't use the web form, drop a note to the P-Team and we'll email you the PDF version. If you're submitting on paper, please make sure that you send the form to the address on the form itself.
