This year's Alchemical Fire Ritual Team consists of Whittney Matlock, Mike Miller, Amy Lawrence, Michael Gryffyn, MoJoe Dancing Tree Galitsky, Shane A, and Tigre Cruz.
Amy Lawrence is known to many of us by the apt sobriquet 'firegoddess.' She has been firetending and involved with fire circle rituals and sacred arts circles for several years and for several organizations. Her focus is on healing the collective via the individual expansion of awareness, one heart and mind at a time. Always present, she will be helping hold the Heart and Hearth of the Alchemical Fire.
Michael Griffyn has been a student, teacher and researcher in Western and Eastern metaphysical and healing arts for more than 30 years, and is a practitioner of many disciplines including Sound Healing, Alchemy, Wicca, Kabbalah, and Tantric yoga. Michael is a long-time practitioner of the art of using sound and the voice for healing the body. He is also a fire shaman, priest, guide, healer, and a member of the Beneficent Order of the Greenman. Michael currently has a coven and a Sound Therapy practice in Laurel, Maryland.
MoJoe makes his living these days as an entertainment rigger and tinker-at-large and has been working in the theater, film and special event world for 20 years, ran the Dancing Tree Cafe at FSG for 8 years, and is often highly involved in whatever festival/gathering he finds himself. He considers himself a Modern Tinker and seeks to continually add to his skill base and engage in metapsychospiritual discussion/growth every chance he gets. Joy is the name of the game and creating harmony on all levels of life is the tool. Love is Everything, so let us build a fire of compassion, gratitude and joy and remember to laugh and smile whenever possible. The focusing of energy to create a safe environment for you to grow and celebrate is my personal goal for this event. If you need an attentive ear and mind, I got it covered, and if you need a shoulder or a hug, I got that too. Let us conspire to create ritual/freeform/planned/spontaneous theater/magic of the highest orders. May we all find our joyful center and then ripple. May we grow our individual consciences and hence raise the collective mind. No effort is wasted if it leads to sociological growth even in the time frame of eons. Namasté.
Shane has been working with various groups of Pagan, LARPers, and Freaks to produce some wonderful and magical experiences for people for a number of years. He is an amateur goldsmith (the main metal currently is silver); he is a tinkerer and maker; he has helped produce rituals with Kindlers of the Sacred Rhythm, Sacred Mark Sanctuary, and the Circle of Dark Eros. His work has to do with site and area prep, special effects (Shane makes really cool stuff happen with fire), sound systems and effects (back lines and atmospheres), and just generally making stuff happen. Shane has also been seen on staff at various Pagan, LARP, and Freak events such as SuspenDC, 1936: Horror and 1948: Signals, FSG, and Sacred Sexuality Beltane. This year, Shane is working with the Alchemical Fire Ritual Team and hoping to create and share more Magic with you all.

Alexandros is a gay male artist with over ten years of university teaching experience and nearly thirty years of experience as a professional artist. Although not a true nudist (he wears clothes most of the time for practical reasons), his interest in the body as a divine vehicle stems from his aesthetic concerns and his study of pagan-inspired visual approaches in Roman Catholic art since the Renaissance. As a spiritual humanist, he believes that all bodies are beautiful and should be treated and viewed with dignity and respect. He believes that body shame and unrealistic body images are among the most damaging aspects of modern developed societies.

Arakeane & Selene: Arakeane exploits the diversity of his religious, sexual, and spiritual background to bring a unique mix of talent to the pagan community. His Baptist, Methodist, Evangelical, Thalamic, and Mormon background from his early years intermingles with his vast experience in sadomasochism, liberal sexuality, and avant-garde spirituality tempered by his various Wiccan experiences and practices for the past 20 years. Arcta Firebringer: Greetings! I have been involved with sweat lodge since 1998, when I was called to walk up the hill at FSG in the driving rain, and experience sweat lodge for the first time! I am trained and was given permission to pour water in 2000 by Ivo Domínguez, Jr and Diane Shevira Stonewater, and currently pour the Wiccan 5 Parts of Self protocol, in the tradition of the Assembly of the Sacred Wheel. I am a 3rd Degree initiate of the Assembly, and a member of Keepers of the Holly Chalice, Water of Water, in the Circle of Pisces.
I am an artist, a lover, a wife and critter mom, and with my dear husband Mark, steward of the most beautiful forest in the land.

Arthur Lipp-Bonewits: So there's this fire in a mental hospital, right? And all the doctors and nurses are running around and screaming, “Aah! Aah! We're all gonna die!” You know, the usual. So the paranoids quietly and calmly gather everyone up and lead them to safety. See, they knew something like this would happen, so they'd checked out the exits. They were prepared.

Conrad Kubiak, owner of Spirit in the Wood Drum Company, is a master drum-maker whose designs are inspired by instruments from West Africa and Latin America as well as Native American shamanic traditions. Ashikos, Djembes, Congas, Batas, Bombas, Cajones, Kit Drums, and the Aboriginal Didgeridoo are among the instruments he builds and plays. Kubiak is an innovator in the manufacture of one piece solid wood drums. Spirit in the Wood sells both Kubiak's original instruments and traditional ones which he reinforces, refurbishes, and re-tunes. The process of making the instruments involves ritual precision while transforming the wood and finding its voice. In the Ivory Coast it is said: “A drummer gives voice to a tree.”
In addition to drum-making activities and workshops, Kubiak also leads corporate consultant leading team-building and motivational exercises during interactive seminars. As the facilitator of drum circles, ceremonies, and White Moment Rhythm Workshops, he develops outreach programs focusing on building communication, improving group dynamics, and appreciating other cultures. Through participatory experience, “white moments” (when left and right hemispheres of the brain are both synchronized and in-phase) are created and everything and everyone slows down as our minds move to a higher state of consciousness. Kubiak draws on his background in NLP as well as his work in the healing arts as a certified Shiatsu therapist, Reiki Master, CranioSacral therapist, and Feng Shui practitioner. In addition to a spiritual path that includes Sufism and Native American studies, he holds degrees in Irish literature, biology, and computer electronics. Kubiak also presented a paper on the “Psychology of Rhythm” at the Creative Arts Therapies Conference in Philadelphia and led a drumming circle in Atlantic City for members of the theatrical troupe performing in STOMP.

Denise Cumor is devoted to making vaginas happy and empowered; she has dedicated most of her adult life to this single purpose. Growing up in a patriarchal culture where women are objectified, sexually abused, and shamed for their acts of sexual exploration, she found herself being pushed under. This is when she began to reclaim her sexuality and to help other women do the same. Identifying as a Pagan and learning to embody the Goddess in all her forms has given her the confidence to build on this reclamation. Experiences that have profoundly strengthened her commitment: working as a stripper for 4 years on Baltimore's infamous 'Block;' teaching OB-GYN protocol to medical students with Johns Hopkins; selling adult novelties with Athena's Home Novelties; working as an Ad Rep for $pread Magazine; directing and acting in various productions of the Vagina Monologues; being a part of the Spiral Dance Womyn's Center collective, where she teaches sex workshops; making music with her band Dirty Mothers; and making ceramic Goddess and vagina rattles and vending at The Red Tent, where she sells adult novelties, sacred feminine art, books/media, and organic feminine hygiene products. When he first encountered Norse practice, he was surprised to find out that it fit most of what he already did and believed in life, minus the deities. Eric now follows a Norse path influenced by classical philosophy, pragmatism, and scholarship. He has always felt most strongly tied to Heimdall, even when he didn't really realize why or what that meant. Eric is drawn to forms of guardianship at many levels.

Lauren: To say I'm eclectic is putting it almost embarrassingly mildly. My current life, in no particular order: henna, raising kids, temari, spinning thread, polyamory, knitting, SCA, being wife to my bestest friend, singing, treating my depression, baking, drawing, conspiracy theories (mostly laughing at), computer games, dealing with an autistic child, painting, laughing, BDSM, belly dance, reading mostly fantasy and science fiction, really good sex, Indian, Persian, and general Arabic material culture and history, and whatever shiny thing wanders by next. I teach a lot of these things at various events devoted to them. Visit me online at www.hennadancer.com.

She has presented workshops at the Free Spirit's Beltane and Gathering, Dark Odyssey, Starwood, Loving More East and West, Poly Living, Building Bridges conferences, and at the Community for Spiritual Living. Telling people is not always easy (though the more people I have told my 'secret' to, the easier it gets). Most people either don't care or are accepting. Let's face it: if they don't like it, it is their problem—and do I what to be with that kind of person anyway? No! Visit hir online at www.abundantmichael.com.

PathWeaver is a longtime attendee of, and occasional random presenter at, FSG. She's been reading tarot since finding a deck in 1979 (at the age of 13) in a cabinet in her house (and she never did figure out where it came from). Often, however, she can be found hanging about in the pool, reading (books, not cards!) on a raft. And she brought chocolate again this year!

Rob - Primal Beat made his first drum in 1986, in the very early days of the hand drum phenomenon in this country. His love for the spirit of percussion and people grew, and soon he was exploring the spiritual side of drum creation. The drum is his calling, and he gave up his job as an electrical engineer to focus on bringing percussion to the people. An eclectic pagan with roots in the Alexandrian Tradition, as well as a Sun Dancer and drummer, Rob mixes many elements in the energy he brings to creating and playing drums of many styles. Rob also works with other drum instructors to make the drum experience available to many, many people. He has provided drums for Baba Olatunji, The Hix, Nery Arevelo, Mz Imani, Abbi Spinner, Jim Donovan, and many other professionals. He also teaches, and has given workshops to adults and to children as young as 4 years old. 'Open yourself to the pulse of the universe, and find what is truly possible.'

Robert: Born and raised in New Jersey, I led a dual life. On the mundane side, I had a career in electronics and computers. Eventually, I became a teacher at a community college, as well as teaching 3rd grade. During the 1990s, I ran my own technology consulting business. During that time, I worked as a Network Administrator at a graduate college that was also a theological seminary. On the spiritual side, I pursued a life-long quest to discover the answer to two questions that I asked when I was five years old: Was there more to life than a simple, mundane existence and, in context to that, what did it mean to be human. In my quest, I sought many kinds of mystical experiences, including attending a number of FSGs. Visit me online at www.penultimatekey.com.

Whittney Matlock & the AFR Team: Whittney is a practitioner and teacher of the ancient mystical art of Shamanic Alchemy. This brand new, age old practice, teaches the creation of a personal elixir of enlightenment. With this elixir, distilled from the sweat of hard work by the fire of personal challenge, frees the mind to evolve through self examine in the trance of intense experiences. Though he is happy to share his elixir with anyone who asks, he'll always remind you that it's the process of brewing your own elixir that makes the magik work.
Before this, he was infamous in the field of massage therapy for pioneering the use of actually listening to his client's needs during sessions. Until his discovery, this strange practice was thought to only be used by a nomadic tribe of bodyworkers in the South Sea Islands. In his wanderings between many worlds, Whittney brings the spiritual practices of the Pagan community into the world of BDSM and the techniques used in BDSM to the Pagan community. When not otherwise occupied, his favorite hobby is corrupting people into thinking for themselves.
As a Shamanic Practitioner, the fire circle is one of his most valued tools. At times it may be the grand stage on which life processes. At others it may be a sharing fire where all come to experience and learn. With many variations in between. His main goal is to provoke people to be engaged, to take part, to have a hand in their own enlightenment and to support the enlightenment of others. Most shocking of all, he believes that the transformation work of the fire can be fun. Take a chance on adventure and step into the circle. You'll never be the same again.
