Abracadazzle! Grand Illusions and Mysteries from Around the Globe - Magnus & Spinner
We combine disciplines from around the world, including pantomime, sleight of hand, dance, drumming, grand illusion and Kabuki theatre with a keen sense of showmanship to create a grand spectacle unlike anything you've ever seen. Masks appear, transform and float about the stage in a supernatural manner. Magic, comedy, drama and grand illusion are mixed in equal parts to transform the stage and audience in a celebration of the magical world. Joins us for a journey around the world and through time, discovering the many faces of magic.

Says McBride of his special brand of magic: Other performers say, "I'm the magician, and you're not." For them, secrets are everything. I say, "I'm a magician—and so are you! Nothing is impossible!"

Alchemical Fire Circle - Magnus, Spinner, Michael, and Joshua
Since the dawn of time, human beings have gathered around the fire to make music, to dance, and to weave magic in the fire light. In the past fifteen years, there has been a resurgence in our Western culture for this type of ritual, a reawakening of the shamanic spirit. What is happening during the course of an all-night fire? After observing the ritual process for a number of years, and comparing stories and experiences with others, we have found that the alchemical model is a useful tool for understanding the all-night sacred fire circle ritual.

Every fire circle ritual is different, but there are some elements common to all. In alchemy, the Magnum Opus, or "great work," is the creation of the "philosopher's stone," which has many magical qualities. This philosopher's stone has the amazing power to turn all that it touches into gold, or to spiritualize matter. Basically, as we see it, we're using a pattern that we know works to change and grow more fully into our souls. We are turning lead into gold, on many different levels.

We see the primary goal of staying up all night, drumming, dancing and singing at a fire circle as an alchemical process. Each one of us is involved, on some level, in the great work. We accelerate the processes of personal growth by accelerating the fire of Nature, which transforms the lead of our lives into the gold of Spirit. One of the basic ideas behind many alchemical traditions is that of transmuting or purifying one thing from a "lower" form into a "higher" form.

If you're planning to participate in the AFC, even if you've participated in them before, please read the Introduction and the Ceremonial Orientation.

Alchemical Rhythmatism - Joshua Levin & Michael Wall
Alchemical Rhythmatism is fun, easy, and includes valuable ways for everyone to contribute to the sonic magic. It is a middle road between free form jamming and structured ensemble play. In this workshop, we will be exploring a variety of templates that skillfully nurture complex and coherent music-making while creating opportunities for all participants to lead, follow, and shape the groove. Alchemical Rhythmatism guides celebrants towards deep engagement with each other, service to the circle as a whole, and conscious identification with the psychological and emotional implications of their own artistic process. Alchemical Rhythmatism is a revolutionary approach to balancing the chaos and cosmos of music in the fire circle. People of all skill and experience levels are welcome.

Ancestor Reverence: The Etenna Eggun - Patricia Althouse
Everyone has ancestors, and honoring ancestors is an important and powerful aspect of spiritual practice. Participants will learn about the Eggun Stick personal ancestor talisman, learn African ancestor songs, and participate in the beautiful ancestor ceremony Etenna Eggun (A Candle for Our Ancestors), which includes the coconut shell divination called Obi. Level of Prior Knowledge: none required; participants should, however, be 21 or older. This class includes the Etenna Eggun ceremony and a divination; rum, flowers, and cigars are included. Materials fee: $21; [21+].

Ancient Egyptian Myth and Magick - Michael Smith
A discussion of the mythology of ancient Egypt, including Creation myths, magicians and priests. We will discuss the daily life of the Gods and Goddesses and what these legends reveal about the character of the Egyptians, their world view, and their religious practices. We will also discuss magickal practices and philosophies of the ancient Egyptians as revealed by their funerary literature. We will talk about the levels of the Universe and the Body and magickal transformation. We will discuss the pitfalls of relying too heavily on either the archeological or the "New Age" view of ancient Egypt when using its religion for our own spiritual practices and devotional work with the ancient Gods and Goddesses of Egypt.

Are You Chronically God-Bothered? - Del
Do you hear the voice of your Matron/Patron? Do They spend your money, make you travel to places without explanation, send people to you for help, or make you undergo lifestyle restrictions? More than devotional work, this roundtable discussion focuses on spirit workers, shamans, God spouses/slaves, and others whose life is centered around doing Someone Else's work. Led by Del, a full time spirit worker, shamanic counselor, and daughter of Loki, come share your experiences being one of the Chronically God Bothered.

Bath and Body Care Using Essential Oils - Sharon Igoe
Beginning informational workshop on the therapeutic use of essential oils, carrier oils, salts and sugar in bath and body care products. This is a hands-on workshop; attendees will take away a container of salt or sugar scrub, or a bottle of massage oil. We'll explore the uses of different carrier oils, essential oils, butters, salts, and sugar to make our own salt or sugar scrubs, or massage oils. This class is suitable for those who are at least 15 years of age, and there is a $10.00 materials fee for each jar of scrub or bottle of massage oil created. Max class size: 15; Materials fee: $10.

Between The Pillars Of Belief And Disbelief - Ivo Domínguez, Jr.
Intermediate to Advanced. As witches, magicians, and shamans of the modern era we are faced with the gift and the challenge of choice in what we believe. Belief is one of the great engines that drives the power of magick, but we also know the danger of blind faith all too well. True believers of any system may never truly know nor understand its workings, but without some belief there is no efficacy. The literal interpretation of symbols, rituals, and myths is fraught with danger, but so is the reductive interpretation that robs us of spirit and essence. The goal of this class is to encourage an informed subjectivity—a controlled belief—that allows us to find balance between the pillars of Belief and Disbelief.

Blue Star Litha - Blue Star
Please join us as we once again gather to celebrate the Summer Solstice in Blue Star's traditional manner. Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.

Build Your Own Drum I - Rob Wandell
Join Primal Beat's Rob Wandell as he walks you through drum construction and shares some of the knowledge he has gained in his 20+ years of drum making. He will bring drum shells, solid steel rings, cloth, and skins. In part 1 of this 2-part workshop, we will choose a skin, soak it, choose cloth, wrap the 3 steel rings, and learn how to tie the carriage ropes. We will lace the rings together, put the head on, set the head, and snug the vertical ropes. We'll then leave the drum to dry until Friday. If you want to build your own drum, you must make arrangements with Rob ahead of time; visit Imagicka to see the types and prices of drums available.

Build Your Own Drum II - Rob Wandell
Now that the heads have had time to dry, we'll do coarse and then fine tuning. Coarse tuning includes pulling the verticals and leveling the head and rings. Then, we'll apply fine tuning. You will learn the reverse mali weave of fine tuning, and what to listen for to make sure that your drum is tuned properly.

Building Faerie Houses - Caroline & Dee Dee & Danny
Come play with the Faeries! Bring your children and your Inner Children to create ceremonial architecture in miniature. We will build dwelling places for the Faeries entirely from natural materials that we find onsite. Our raw materials will include twigs, bark, leaves, pebbles, flowers and vines, along with our own love and creativity. We will leave these Spirit Houses available for the Faeries of Camp Ramblewood to enjoy after the workshop is over. The Faeries regard these tiny dwellings as offerings, and they have especially requested that we present this workshop at Free Spirit Gathering.

Care and Feeding of Horses: Stewardship for the God-Possessed - Tannin Schwartzstein
In some traditions, the Gods and spirits are not content to only communicate with humans through means such as prayer and omens. They are believed to temporarily displace a person's psyche and 'borrow' his or her body. In Vodou, this practice is known as 'Horsing'; in Wiccan Traditions, it is sometimes referred to as 'Drawing Down.' In this unusual workshop, author Tannin Schwartzstein will discuss various aspects of acting as a steward to the god-possessed in varying circumstances, including preparing the physical space, ministering to a 'horse,' and interacting with onlookers.

Changing the Form - Nybor
Nybor has received certain revelations concerning the relationship between the physical plane, as we know it, and various other planes. In this lecture, he will speak of the shape of the universe and of the membrane between the planes. He will touch on the relationship between the All and deity. Nybor will also speak of the individual's state of being and various means of altering this state. This is the first of two lectures introducing a new theory of the way magic works. [18+].

Chant Share - Cat Castells & Matthew Callahan
Join us for a Chant Share. You don't need to be a singer to attend, since chants can accomodate the tone-deaf as well as the opera-worthy voice. At this event, we'll share many of our favorite chants with you, some from the Pagan Top 40, and some more obscure. We invite you to bring chants of your own to share, too. The goal of the workshop is to spend some time raising our voices in chant and also to take away with us some new chants to add to our arsenal. Graduates of the workshop will be invited to chant with us at the fire circle that evening. We look forward to singing with you.

Choosing Your Tarot Deck and Beginning Tarot Reading - reed
Choosing a tarot deck, or letting one choose you, is part of the intuitive journey to begin using the tarot as a tool for clarity, affirmation and direction. In this workshop, we will discuss how one finds a deck that speaks to them, and then, how to study and begin reading cards for yourself and others. Max class size: 15.

Closing Ecumenical Sumbel - Scott Mohnkern
A sumbel is a Norse tradition of rounds of toasts to the gods, our ancestors, and ourselves. It's not only a ritual where we become closer with our gods, but we also become closer to each other. Come celebrate your time at FSG, as we start to close out this year's experience. [21+].

Coming Out of the Broom Closet - Dianna
Planning to come out of the broom closet? Already out? If so, you'll probably have to face widespread ignorance and negativity from both your peers and the adults who run your schools and jobs. In this class, we'll discuss that pressure and practice ways to handle a variety of difficult situations, including: meeting the parents of a date, explaining 'alternate' holidays, defending your pentagram, and diffusing a volatile situation. This class will include the presentation of suggested ideas and will also make time for discussion by participants. For teens.

Composting and Topsoil—How and Why, From a Druidic View - West
Beginning permaculture workshop. I will discuss the basics of the primary types of composting, and the advantages of each. One of them is right for you! We'll focus on the simple principles and avoid the fancy expensive stuff. At the end, you should be able to start composting at home.

Creating Bindrunes - Scott Mohnkern
In addition to their use in divination, runes can be used for magickal working (spell working) for a variety of practices. Here, we will talk about how to create bindrunes, what purposes they can be used for, and how to get most out of creating your own bindrunes. You'll even walk away from the class with your own bindrune to take with you.

Crystal Water Healing - Caroline Kenner
Our bodies are 70% Water, as is the body of our beloved planet Earth. Water is an eternal being, taking an endless parade of forms as liquid, solid and vapor, yet remaining always Itself. Water's elemental consciousness is so quickly mutable that it usually escapes human notice. And yet Water is essential to human existence. Where does our Water come from? Are we mindful of our Water, as an elemental being deserves? Or do we take our Water for granted? Working with Water in a sacred way will become increasingly important in the future. Our first step in working with Water is to begin healing our own Water, the Water transiting inside us. Only then can we approach the larger work: to heal the Water on our Earth. In this ritual, we will sing to Water surrounded with crystals. We will saturate the Water with love and gratitude. At the end of the ritual, we will drink Water, get wet with Water and become one with Water. Wear casual garb that you can get wet, and bring a towel if you wish. This ceremony is informed by eight years of study with Sandra Ingerman, including her Medicine for the Earth material. The inspiring photos of Water taken by Dr. Masaru Emoto are another influence, and the crystals used in this workshop are from the Brazilian spiritual healer John of God. This ceremony is designed for adults and older teens.

Dance of the Elements - Zammis
Enjoy a 2 hour experience that includes each of the 5 elements from Chinese medical theory; Water,Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. We'll explore each energetic using music, dance, meditation, and other excercises. Learn about the cycle of the elements in nature and in yourselves. Please bring a notebook and pen or pencil to journal your experiences. Due to the nature of the program, arrivals after the first 15 minutes are not permitted.

Dancing Our Grandmother's Dance - Naraya
American Tribal Style (ATS) has been said to draw upon women’s communal memory to recreate the dance of our grandmothers. Here, we call the dance to the Earth again. ATS is a "cued" style of improvised Middle Eastern dance that was (re)created in the United States in the 1960s. In this class, you will learn the foundational movements of the ATS style, methods of how to read cues from the leader, and the beauty and synergy of a dance being created in the moment by and amongst your sisters. The focus will lie in drawing from our ancestral heritage as embodied through our movements and the unique way that each woman blossoms, flows and recreates the dance for future generations.

Please wear comfortable, breathable clothes to class (yoga clothes and a shmanzy hip-scarf are perfect) and bring a bottle of water.

Deep Pleasure Massage - David
This is a very hands-on workshop that will teach you how to do deep tissue massage on a partner's sore and stressed-out muscles. Come prepared to knead and be kneaded! You'll see and feel which muscles to work on, with expert guidance. This workshop includes demonstrations and lots of practice with a partner. Everyone will have a chance to experience giving and receiving massage with step-by-step instructions and coaching.

Designing Effective Rituals 1 - Ivo Domínguez, Jr.
Beginning to Intermediate. The creation of new rituals that are safe, moving, and efficacious is both an art and a science. In this class, several models for describing, testing, and balancing ritual outlines will be presented. We will also talk about why rituals work and how they have the potential to touch and to change us. The methods and paradigms offered will be applicable to most Neo-Pagan and Western Magick traditions. This is part one of a two-part class, and attending both parts is best.

Designing Effective Rituals 2 - Ivo Domínguez, Jr.
Beginning to Advanced. This is part two of a two-part class, so attending both parts is best.

Drum for Joy! 1 - Jaqui MacMillan

Learn the many parts of a West African rhythm. Polyrhythms bring out the true power of the drums. Bring your drum(s) and a chair.

Festival as Community - Deborah Lipp
A look at the way that the festival movement has influenced Paganism in general, and us as individuals. What changes has the community seen as a result of the festival movement, and what changes have we ourselves experienced? Does it mean something different to be a Pagan in a community that has festivals then it did to be a Pagan in decades past? This workshop will combine formally-presented material on the history of Pagan festivals, as well as free-form discussion about how we have experienced festivals.

Festival Jamming - Kenny Klein
When people go to festivals, they like to play music. Sometimes it's hard, though, to play with a group of people you've never met. Find Your Sacred Voice—Advanced - Izolda Trakhtenberg
This workshop will continue where the first Sacred Voice workshop left off. Participants will learn additional vocal/singing techniques, including breathing, tonal quality, timbre, placement of the voice, pitch, blend, and harmony. We will further develop confidence and communication through the voice and song by learning and singing more beautiful and challenging songs and rounds from around the world. Participants who complete both workshops will have the opportunity to perform a short set before Abracadazzle! on Saturday. This workshop is open to anyone who has taken the Beginning workshop (either this year or last year). Materials fee: $2.

Find Your Sacred Voice—Beginning - Izolda Trakhtenberg
A workshop on discovering the sacred joy of singing: The voice, being our first instrument, has the greatest physical, emotional and spiritual connection to our body. Throughout the ages, people have used song both to express themselves and to connect with the sacred. And yet, usually we sing without first establishing the crucial connection between breath, body, and voice. Or perhaps we are afraid to sing because we fear that we cannot sing. Using stretches, physical and vocal exercises, and techniques, this workshop will focus on the connecting the body to the breath, the breath to the voice, the voice to the song and the song to the spirit. We will also attempt to increase the comfort level with vocalizing and develop some listening skills to aid in feeling joyful about singing both individually and with others. The participants will also receive a vocal skills practice CD to help them keep the connection with their singing voices long after the workshop is over.

In this workshop, we'll learn physical warm-up exercises and their importance, and vocal warm-up exercises designed to open the singing passages, unblock resonators, free the voice, and increase confidence in singing. We'll also cover good mechanics to prevent strain, techniques to strengthen vocal power, proper breathing techniques, pitch matching, vocal communication, caring for our voices, and proper practice techniques. Finally, we'll put techniques we've covered into practice by learning and singing songs and rounds. Materials fee: $2.

Drawing on his unique experience of the relationship between the craft of the performance magician and the practitioner of the arts of the Shaman, Jeff McBride discusses the role of the Magician, from its archaic origins to the high-tech showrooms of Las Vegas. An incredible journey from the death and resurrection rituals of ancestral cultures to The Magical Empire, a 55 million dollar complex dedicated to ancient magic and mysteries. Jeff will weave a tale of his personal quest for "real magic" that has led him around the world; from the deep woods to Deep Space!

Fun with Scents and Sensuality - Cat Castells
Probably the most visceral sense we possess, smell is often ignored or neglected when we are thinking of sensuality. For this workshop, I'll introduce you to a number of fine, very high-quality perfumes, divided by type of fragrance. There will be some history involved in this class, and, at the end, you'll get an opportunity to smell some other niche and classic perfumes. If you are at all interested in fragrance and perfume, you will really enjoy this! Not a workshop where you'll make perfume, this is, instead, an invitation to try a number of different kinds of perfume and perhaps find a fragrance or two to fall in love with. This workshop is open to folks of all genders and levels of experience; however, if you have allergies to materials found in perfumes, you probably should skip it. [18+].

This workshop makes it easy and fun to put a marriage or commitment (or renewal!) ceremony together, including all of the pieces that make it a polished, complete experience. You'll have an opportunity to ask all of your questions and get answers in detail about who can legally marry you, how to find and talk with an officiant, how to find and select a venue, catering, and more.

The Gift of Fear - Arakeane & Selene
Fear is a primal perception that is often maligned and misunderstood. Fear is a survival signal that can protect us from harm or violence if we use this gift correctly. The problem with fear is being afraid. In a society where our political leaders are increasingly advancing an agenda deigned to keep us perpetually afraid, understanding fear is a key element in maintaining individual freedom. We will discuss fear and separate it from the feelings that fear-mongering new world order architects use to warp society to their dictates. We will also talk about how you can use fear in your everyday lives to protect yourself from violence. [18+].

The Gods of Hellenismos - Thista Minai
Would you like to learn something special you could do to make Apollo happier in your circles? Do you want to know what beverage you should not put in a chalice for Demeter? Have you discovered something new that Aphrodite loves? Come share your knowledge of the ancient Greek Gods! We'll make a list of the Gods and Goddesses people want to talk about and then share ancient customs and traditions as well as modern revelations associated with each one. Attending Intro to Hellinismos is a good idea, and you'll probably get more out of this class if you do, but it's not required.

Greenwights: Northern-Tradition Shamanic Herbalism - Raven Kaldera
The ancient peoples of northern Europe had a working knowledge of herbs that included not only their medicinal uses, but also partnership with the plant spirits. The early-medieval healers of northern Europe were known as the Leike, and their course of study included this style of hands-on, soul-on herbalism, as well as spells and charms for working with the plant spirits and their patron deities. We'll explore this form of medicinal and magical herbalism the way our ancestors did. If you're a Pagan or Heathen and you call yourself a healer, this is a class you should take.

Learn a moving meditation to guide placement of stone altars in the home according to element/issue. This class is Beginning–Intermediate; it is suggested you participate in Part One.

Healing Your Relationship With Money - Elspeth of Haven
Originally temple tokens (the first coins bore the face of a god), money has come to mean much more in our present culture. For some people, it has come to mean power, love, comfort, sex, war, peace, even the meaning of life itself. Money—the earning of it and the spending of it—is not separate from the rest of your life, certainly not your spiritual life. How and why does it relate? Elspeth speaks from her own life experiences and from her 78+ years of observing our species in action.

The Healing Power of Rhythm with Taketina - Marcus Sims
Taketina is a musical journey using the power of rhythm to facilitate our own personal evoluion. Using our bodies as our instrument, with simultaneous stepping, clapping, and singing, we dance and sing to cultivate our awareness in the present moment and quiet the chatter of our rational minds. As our awareness deepens, the habitual patterns of our lives become apparent and can be transformed. In the Taketina rhythmic community, each person can find their own place, regardless of musical experience or skill. At times playful, challenging, primal, meditative, and sublime, Taketina is a tonic for our nervous systems and a mirror for our lives. It is Rhythm for Evolution. Wear comfortable clothes, and bring a blanket or pad.

Heimdall: Guardian of the Bifrost Bridge - Eric S
The Shining Æse, carrier of Gjallrhorn, also known as Rig, was the watchman of the Norse Gods. He is less well known than a number of others and much of his lore was lost. Eric will explore what can be found about Heimdall as well as a few things that can be implied and what in the watchman may appeal to parts of us. Come share what can be learned from this most perceptive of gods.

Hermes Council - Bill Seligman (Fàidh)
Men and women are different. Though we share a common spiritual ground, there are Women's Mysteries and Men's Mysteries that can be experienced separately. The Hermes Council is a men's-only spiritual group. It complements the shared spirituality of men and women by offering men a separate space to address their spiritual needs. The rituals and practices of the Hermes Council are based on Wiccan and Native American traditions, and will probably be familiar to you. What is unique about us is the degree of honesty and communication that we share in our ritual space.

After a short (10–15 minute) introduction, we will perform a ritual in the Hermes Council tradition. The ritual will include a council, where we'll pass around a talking stick and give every participant a chance to speak. Please feel free to bring drums and other musical instruments, cups for juice or seltzer, and any other ritual equipment with which you are comfortable (e.g., athames). Once we have defined our sacred space and cast our circle, we will be reluctant to allow latecomers to enter. Please be on time.

How To Cast a Spell in Five Minutes or Less - Del
I'm busy. You're busy. We're all busy. Sometimes we have a need that begs to be addressed and not enough time in the week to haul out the athame, put on the floofy robes, and chant for an hour. Del, a 'suburban shaman', brings you real-life-applicable techniques like sigil making, bind runes, and found item magick to help you and your overworked schedule. Can be used for healing, employment, travel, and just about anything else you can think of. (You'll find the workshop eminently better if you bring a writing utensil and paper with you!).

Independent Pagan Publishing - Raven Kaldera and Joshua Tenpenny
The Neo-Pagan religion has always been a literary one, changed and driven by books and authors. This means that writers and publishers have had a strong effect on the way our religion has been practiced. But Pagan publishing today is in an interesting quandary: Pagan-focused presses are small, and bound by market forces, which means what will sell a whole lot Now, which means Lowest Common Denominator. How can you get your words out there? Let's find out.

Intuition, Blindsight, and Religious Experience - Arakeane & Selene
Experimentation into the phenomena of blindsight has led researchers to more deeply understand and model the nature of consciousness. In so doing, science has come to recognize that there is extensive neurological input which does not reach the level of our conscious thought. At the same time, our brain is able to process these inputs and we may train ourselves to use this information to draw conscious conclusions. In essence, this defines the neurological nature of a "gut feeling." Intuition is based largely upon "gut feelings" or the perceptions we receive for which we can not define a conscious method by which our perception was obtained. Religious experiences may examined within such a framework.

Experience a sense of nurturing and trust as we work in pairs, applying pre-plastered gauze strips on the face to create the base of your mask. In our Western culture, we have often forgotten the power of our own voices, forgotten calling up our ancient connection to holiness, our personal spirituality. Ariana of KIVA and John invite you to join them to remember our roots and heal our hearts. In this workshop, we will teach you how to sense energy between your own hands and then to sense it around others, seeing how you sense what is going on in another's energetic field/body. Self-defense as a Spiritual Practice - Tom Swiss
You are a manifestation of the divine, a child of the God and Goddess. That makes you a being worth defending; yet our culture's confused attitudes about violence, plus the self-esteem issues faced by many people in the Pagan community, often obscure the fact that self-defense is also defense of the divine principle within all of us. In this workshop we will try to cut through the fog and discuss attitudes and skills to preserve not just your body but your divine nature. You could be carrying parasitic passengers on your walk through life, and need a shamanic extraction. Join us for a ceremony designed to free us from the annoying psychic limpets that drain us and pain us. Extraction healing is practiced in myriad tribal cultures in places as widespread as the Amazon basin and Siberia. Extraction involves the removal of parasitical spirit entities that can cause pain and illness, whether physical, emotional or spiritual. These spirit entities are then transmuted so they can never return. Ancient healing techniques such as extraction have survived for millennia because they work. These healings will be performed in honor of the myriad Pagan Goddesses and Gods we know by many names, and in alliance with the compassionate healing spirits of Camp Ramblewood. Miraculous healings are a distinct possibility. Bring something to sit on as we will be outdoors.

Suitable for people 12 and older.

Staying on the Planet—How to Stay Grounded at Festivals - Claire M. Sagewell
So many of us look forward to coming to Festival, especially if it is our first one. But it is a really heady experience! The fire, the drumming, the forest, the gods— all of it can make anyone feel light of head and deeply ungrounded. This workshop, in two parts, will give you tools, both magickal and practical, to offer support and guidance so you can get the most out of your Festival experience. Especially good for newbies, but all are welcome. Bring a camp chair or something else comfy to sit on.

The Study of Witchcraft - Deborah Lipp
After mastering the basics of 'Wicca 101,' many students are baffled about where to go next. How do I study 'Wicca 202?' What is Wicca 202? One of the crucial features of a course of study in Advanced Wicca is to reach beyond the basics and study other topics. Based on the material in my book, The Study of Witchcraft, this class addresses topics that are of value to every student of the occult, and how to approach their study.

This class will talk about the known and suspected origins of lodge, how a person should behave at other people's lodges, how to tell of a lodge will be safe or not, and how the lodge affects a person's mind, body, spirit and energy.

Trance: The Power to Change Consciousness - Whittney Matlock
Every day of your life, you live in a state of trance. Most of us move from one trance state to another without even realizing it. We get in a car and drive somewhere with little or no recognition of the journey. We interact with people we meet with little awareness of how we interact with them. Often we lose parts of a day and have no idea where they went. These are all symptoms of being in a trance state. Trance is simply the selection of what inputs we will give our attention to out of the millions of things that demand our attention every moment. This is a good thing; without it, we would be overwhelmed by the input of everyday life. The power of trance comes when we consciously select to what we give our attention.

Spend some time playing around with your awareness of your trance states. Discover some new ones. Find out how you can consciously manipulate your state of consciousness though the power of your intent and a bit of practice. This session will not change your life; only you can do that. It will, however, give you the tools to change it into whatever you choose.

Transform Your Life Elementally! - Izolda Trakhtenberg
In Astrology, Ayuerveda, and Native American spirituality, the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water play a large role in determining personality characteristics. For example, a person may be an Air sign (and therefore thought- and reason-oriented); however, the Life Elements System proposes that simply knowing your status is only the first step in creating a full and well-rounded life. The Life Elements workshop takes the process one step further by not only allowing individuals to assess themselves and their current status with the Element Designation Assessment Tool but also giving missions and quests to develop and/or balance all four elements. It is only with access to the strengths and characteristics of all four elements that we can live, act, and react in the world from a well-rounded and joyful place. In this workshop, we will take a truncated Element Designation Assessment Test (the full EDAT is available online and will be available in the forthcoming book), and we will assess each individual's element designations and potential element imbalances. Once those are established, we will develop a methodology that will allow participants to stabilize and then increase their connection to the elements they need in order to help them become fully well-rounded in all four elements and then therefore possess the accessibility to each whenever it is needed. We will then complete at least one of the Elemental missions, quests or meditations depending on the general needs of the participants. Izolda's groundbreaking new book, Life Elements: Transform Your Life With Earth, Air, Fire, and Water will be available at the workshop.

The Triangle of Stillness - Michael Smith
The Triangle of Stillness is a casting that creates a space wherein the effects of causality and temporal forces are greatly diminished, and the force of synchronicity is enhanced. It can be used on its own or in conjunction with other castings as part of a larger ritual. It has function in meditation, healing, counseling, divination, work with the Qabala, and others. We will discuss the requirements for its casting, techniques for its creation and use, and how to gain the most benefit from its use. We will also experience the casting firsthand.

Two Right Feet: Sacred Dance For All - Rebecca Proch
In this playful, low-impact workshop, we will explore sacred dance as a form of ritual available to all, regardless of experience, skill, body type, or natural grace! In every era and culture, dance has been used by 'ordinary' people to reach out to the divine with their whole bodies, yet too many of us feel embarrassed or shy or worry that we aren't good enough at it to try it. Together, we'll go through some basic safety and warm-ups, explore types of movement, talk about raising energy through dance, and play with ways to free our movements, shed our inhibitions, and 'talk' to our gods. Wear clothes you can move in, and be ready to laugh, play, groove, get charged up, and feel great!

Unconventional Watercolor - Sophia Shultz
This is an intermediate workshop. If you have ever thought about trying watercolor painting and then thought again because of its demanding nature, I encourage you to try this workshop. We will use gouache (opaque watercolor), which is a much more forgiving medium than transparent watercolor. We will focus on still life including foliage, as interesting items and foliage are abundant at FSG and will not require the kind of detail work that portraiture or other subject matter might. Attendees will learn the uses of underpainting, which they will then overpaint with color. We will discuss particulars including color choice and mixing. Materials fee: $20; [18+].

Vodou Love Magic - Kenaz & Kathy
According to some authorities, no real Witch would ever cast a love spell. Vodouisants beg to differ. This workshop talks about Vodou love magic in theory and practice. We will explore the ethics and potential dangers of love magic, but we will also provide love spells which can help you to meet That Special Someone(s). Incorporates material from the forthcoming Vodou Love Magic (Destiny, 2009).

Wednesday Morning Blót—Odin - Scott Mohnkern
Come join us Wednesday morning for a blót to Odin. This ritual will be a three round toast to Odin, and all that he has given us. Blóts are open to anyone who wants to celebrate the gods and have a quick wakeup! Bring your loudest toasting voice. If you're under 21, you may attend, but you may not imbibe. [21+].

What is That White Pencil For, Anyway? - Sophia Shultz
Beginning-to-intermediate class. Have you ever bought or received a pack of colored pencils and wondered what on earth that white pencil was for? Now is your chance to find out the range of effects that can be achieved in colored pencil. Students will work not on white paper but on colored, to demonstrate the great depth that can be achieved when one discards the notion that all paper is white. We will focus on still life, possibly objects or foliage, but nothing that will be too detailed for a 2-hour workshop. Max class size: 15; Materials fee: $10.

What Kind of Pagan Am I? - Dianna
Adolescence is a time of questioning definitions, which can be especially interesting for people growing up in pagan communities. In this open discussion, the group will ponder the following questions: Who am I? Am I pagan? What are the positives—and negatives—of growing up with pagan parents? Which parts of paganism work for me? How does my knowledge of paganism affect my choices in regards to studies, hobbies, relationships, sex, career plans, etc.? Although no one will be required to share, this forum is intended to get everyone involved in the conversation. Mediated by Dianna. For Teens Only.

What's a Body To Do? - Elspeth of Haven
How do we honor our changing abilities? We need to learn to regard this as change, not loss. Both our bodies and our minds grow and change—at least, one would hope so! To remain stagnant at any one age would be devastating. You don't think so? Bring your thoughts to this session. Perhaps you can teach us all something.

What's in the Night Sky? - Bill Seligman (Fàidh)
This workshop will help prepare you for Star-gazing With a Telescope. Why is the telescope in the Merchants Field this year, when it used to be the Soccer Field? What are the two brightest objects in the sky? What else is visible in the sky at this year's FSG? All this will be discussed, as well as how to use the telescope. If time and interest permit, the teacher (a particle physicist) will give a demonstration of 'Fermion spin statistics explained using BSDM.'

Wicca: Magick, Religion, and Spirituality - Michael Smith
Most of those who are drawn to Wicca are initially attracted more strongly to one of three main aspects: The Magickal, the Religious, or the Spiritual. Though many will naturally begin to incorporate one of the other aspects into their practice over time, most will remain fascinated and devoted to their first attraction, sometimes developing an unbalanced and unhealthy practice. This workshop will explore the full richness and benefit that can be experienced only when all three of these aspects are included and developed in practice. What does it mean to be a magickal being, a religious being, a spiritual being who walks a Wiccan path? We will discuss each of these three practices, and some ways to bring balance to individual and group Wiccan practices (acknowledging that one of the three will always be your 'favorite' way of experiencing the Divine).

Women's Summer Solstice - Firesong and Laffing Frog
As the Solstice Sun reaches the summit, come and celebrate the Summer as we honor our continuing journeys. Please bring drums or rattles and water.

The Work That Reconnects - Hillary Blue Moon & Marcus Sims
The problem: Feeling concerned about what you read in the papers? Global Climate Change, war, species extinctions. Perhaps you feel angry, sad, fearful, or overwhelmed. You'd like to be part of the solution, but the problems seem so huge. Many people don't even want to talk about what's really going on. The Solution: The Work That Reconnects can help. Using experiential processes, guided meditations, ritual and the arts, we will move gradually into remembering our connections with all of life, including our ancestors, future generations, and other species. We can share the depths of our feelings in a circle of respect. Through expressing our feelings we release them and free up our full energy so we can do our part in the Great Turning, the shift from the Industrial Growth Society to a Life-Sustaining Society. Our natural joy at being alive is reawakened, and our hearts feel stronger to face the challenges and opportunities that lie before us. Results: Participants will emerge with a deep feeling of reconnection to the earth as well as an energized sense of empowerment, commitment, and vision to make a difference by being part of the solution on a personal and global level.

Yin, Meet Yang: A 5 Elements and Yin/Yang Look at Love and Sex - Tom Swiss
Most of us have heard of the basic Chinese principles of Yin and Yang, and have some idea that 'Yin is female' and 'Yang is male'. Is there more to it that that? Of course! We'll be discussing the model of the human being provided by the basic TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) concepts of Yin/Yang, the Five Elements, and the Twelve Meridians; and how that model might inform our thinking about love, sex, and relationships. Teens are welcome.

Yoga for Everyone - Whittney Matlock
One posture a day makes a yoga practice, and that one posture is so much easier when done with a group. Away from our normal supports, let's support each other in sticking with our practice. This time is for anyone interested in the practice of yoga postures, from beginner to advanced. We will spend half an hour together supporting each other in a few postures each day to help keep our minds and bodies flexible. If you have mats and belts, bring them along, or simply bring a towel and blanket. These practices will focus on standing and sitting postures that anyone can do.
