21st Century Witch - Arakeane and Selene
The 21st century witch is a far cry from the 16th century prototype which many advocates of the modern Wiccan movement initially attempted to emulate. Today's sciences are uncovering what may be the foundations of legend and magical lore, while exploring hidden realms that were beyond comprehension only 20 years ago. New paradigms abound for those who are prepared to embrace them. This workshop will explore some of these and talk about their implications for Wicca today.

This is primarily a roundtable for spirit workers, shamans, and others who find themselves doing the work of specific Gods or Goddesses. Are you a God Spouse? Do you find yourself being gently pushed (or in some cases, even forced) to help a certain person, go to a specific location, or study a particular skill? Come talk with some who have been living this way for years, and some for whom this is a brand new experience.

Grounding and centering can be the heart of your practice, connecting you to the vast resources of the Earth, and allowing you to work from a place of balance. We’ll cover the reasons one should ground and center, when to do it and how to do it, along with some real-time practice. This class and practicum is for beginners, especially, and for everyone who feels the need to return to their roots.

Bereavement Workshop and Circle - Mark & Del
To quote the hospice training manual, My Gift, Myself by JoAnne Chitwood Nowack, RN, 'A loss can affect human emotions in much the same way the surgeon's knife impacts the body. Any kind of a loss creates an emotional wound. The bigger the loss, the more severe the wound will be... Those who have had the courage to love deeply in spite of the potential pain of loss deserve our support through the difficult days of the healing process.' We'll start this workshop with a review and discussion of the Understanding Bereavement chapter from the above mentioned book. Then, we'll cast circle and call our Guides, Gods and Loved Ones before we open our hearts to those who feel led to share the grief of loss and/or the joy of rememberance and thankfulness.

Join Primal Beat's Rob Wandell as he walks you through drum construction and shares some of the knowledge he has gained in his 20-plus years of drum making. He will bring drum shells, solid steel rings, cloth, and skins. In part 1 of this 2-part workshop, we will choose a skin, soak it, choose cloth, wrap the 3 steel rings, and learn how to tie the carriage ropes. We will lace the rings together, put the head on, set the head, and snug the vertical ropes. We'll then leave the drum to dry until Friday.

If you want to build your own drum, you must make arrangements with Rob ahead of time; visit Imagicka online to see the types and prices of drums available.

Build Your Own Drum II - Rob Wandell
Now that the heads have had time to dry, we'll do coarse and then fine tuning. Coarse tuning includes pulling the verticals and leveling the head and rings. Then, we'll apply fine tuning. You will learn the reverse mali weave of fine tuning, and what to listen for to make sure that your drum is tuned properly.

Care and Feeding of Horses: Stewardship for the God-Possessed - Rev. Tannin Schwartzstein
In some traditions, the Gods and spirits are not content to only communicate with humans through means such as prayer and omens. They are believed to temporarily displace a person's psyche and 'borrow' his or her body. In Vodou, this practice is known as 'Horsing'; in Wiccan Traditions, it is sometimes referred to as 'Drawing Down.' In this unusual workshop, author Tannin Schwartzstein will discuss various aspects of acting as a steward to the god-possessed in varying circumstances, including preparing the physical space, ministering to a 'horse,' and interacting with onlookers.

Chakra Awakening - Sylvia Brallier
Chakras are energy vortexes that exist within the subtle body. The chakras represent different aspects of our experience as human beings. By working with the energies of the chakras, it is possible to balance and clear away the aspects of ourselves that prevent us from being healed whole and in alignment with our highest nature. Participants will receive the Chakra Breath Initiation, which is one of the most powerful practices I know to transform the energetic body.

It's amazing how much time people can spend analyzing their thoughts, relationships, and life without ever objectively looking at the contents of their spiritual beliefs and how these effect everything! The role of the facilitator, the dancer, drummers and observers will be explored. We will explore techniques from my personal experiences in doing drum circle for over 10 years. Chaos leads to order, and order to evolution. We will take a look at how they view Christianity---then we'll turn the lenses on ourselves. Religion is as often a barrier to truth as a path to enlightenment. We'll discuss how our religions help and hinder our search for greater meaning.

Expanding Your Appreciation of the God - Michael Reeder, MS, LGPC
Or: He's Not Just Good in Bed. Frequently the role of male deity is restricted to fertility, if he is thought of at all. Find Your Sacred Voice: Singing with Your Body, Mind, and Spirit - Izolda Trakhtenberg
A workshop on discovering the sacred joy of singing. The voice, being our first instrument, has the greatest physical, emotional and spiritual connection to our body. Throughout the ages, people have used song both to express themselves and to connect with the sacred. And yet, usually, we sing without first establishing the crucial connection between breath, body, and voice. Or perhaps we are afraid to sing because we fear that we can not sing. Using stretches, and physical and vocal exercises and techniques, this workshop will focus on the connecting the body to the breath, the breath to the voice, the voice to the song and the song to the spirit. We will also attempt to increase the comfort level with vocalizing and develop some listening skills to aid in feeling joyful about singing both individually and with others. The participants will also receive a vocal skills practice CD to help them keep the connection with their singing voice long after the workshop is over. In this workshop, learn: Physical warm-up exercises and their importance; Vocal warm-up exercises designed to: Open the singing passages; Unblock resonators; Free the voice; Increase confidence in singing; Good mechanics to prevent strain; Techniques to strengthen vocal power; Proper breathing techniques; Pitch matching; Vocal communication; Caring for your voice; Proper practice techniques. Getting Real: Practicing Honesty in Relationships - Michelle Zee
"Presence is what makes you radiantly alive, confident, and attractive. The key to presence is honesty."

Getting Real teaches truth skills that make honest communication safer and more fun. Most people are afraid to be totally honest. They fear damaging the relationship, creating a hassle, or hurting someone's feelings. But when you learn to put your attention on your own here-now experience rather than worrying about the outcome, you discover the real source of personal power and self-trust. We all participate in speaking honesty and noticing how language affects how we communicate. There will also be some fun exercises including playing an honesty game. We will explore: * What practices are available to support my living in my here-now experience instead of in my beliefs, judgments, and shoulds? * The difference between my senses and my mind. * How we can express anger and sadness without trying to control the other person. * How we can transparently label our intent.

A lot of people associate folksongs with wholesomeness; after all, "I've Been Workin' on the Railroad" and its ilk have been taught to schoolkids for years. But there's also a seamy underbelly in the folksong world, with lots of great, juicy, dirty songs. We'll sing, listen to, and talk about songs dealing with lust, sex, bodily excretions, and other filthy topics. We'll encounter legendary, well-endowed characters like Piss-Pot Pete and his Swinging Meat, and the Four Old Whores of Baltimore. Men will learn "never let your bollocks dangle in the dust," while women will be counseled, "if you cannot find a man, you can always use a carrot.." If you want to join in, just bring your voice and any dirty ditties you might know.

Gourmet Foot Massage--A Soleful Discussion on Feet - Whittney Matlock
Feet can be a source of great pleasure and of great pain. They support us through our day. They propel us through life. They arouse us during play. Giving us all that, they ask for very little in return: the occasional new pair of shoes, a good washing now and again and maybe, just maybe, a good rub one in a while. Remember the last time someone rubbed your feet? You were probably ready to marry them on the spot if they would just keep it up. So, here's your chance to learn how to do a great foot massage that will bring others to their knees (so to speak). After this class, you will have the basic skills that professional therapists use to help their clients. It's easy, fun and can have amazing results on a partner, play mate or new found toy. Hermes Council - Bill Seligman (Fàidh)
Men and women are different. Though we share a common spiritual ground, there are Women's Mysteries and Men's Mysteries that can be experienced separately. The Hermes Council is a men's-only spiritual group. It complements the shared spirituality of men and women by offering men a separate space to address their spiritual needs. The rituals and practices of the Hermes Council are based on Wiccan and Native American traditions, and will probably be familiar to you. What is unique about us is the degree of honesty and communication that we share in our ritual space.

After a short (10-15 minute) introduction, we will perform a ritual in the Hermes Council tradition. The ritual will include a council, where we'll pass around a talking stick and give every participant a chance to speak. Please feel free to bring drums and other musical instruments, cups for juice or seltzer, and any other ritual equipment with which you are comfortable (e.g., athames). Once we have defined our sacred space and cast our circle, we will be reluctant to allow latecomers to enter. Please be on time.

In this workshop we'll learn about each of these beings, examining how these ancient deities transformed over millennia into 'evil' figures like Baphomet and Satan, and later, the Wiccan 'Horned One.' We'll talk about how they have been depicted in literature and other media. We'll discuss our own personal visions of them and experiences with them. At the end, there will be a short ritual to honor and celebrate the Horned One in all his names and guises.

Intuition and Blindsight - Arakeane and Selene
Experimentation into the phenomena of blindsight has led researchers to more deeply understand and model the nature of consciousness. In so doing, science has come to recognize that there is extensive neurological input which does not reach the level of our conscious thought. At the same time, our mind is fully aware of these inputs and may use these inputs to draw conscious conclusions. In essence, this defines the neurological nature of a 'gut feeling.' Intuition is based largely upon 'gut feelings' or the perceptions we receive for which we can not define a conscious method by which our perception was obtained. Reconciling intuition with blindsight, allows for a paradigm shift of significant importance to the 21st century witch.

Life Elements: Change Your Life With Earth, Air, Fire, and Water - Izolda Trakhtenberg
In Astrology, Ayuerveda, and Native American spirituality, the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water play a large role in determining personality characteristics. For example, a person may be an Air sign (and therefore thought and reason oriented) however, the Life Elements System proposes that simply knowing your status is only the first step in creating a full and well-rounded life. The Life Elements workshop takes the process one step further by not only allowing individuals to assess themselves and their current status with the Element Designation Assessment Tool but also giving missions and quests to develop and/or balance all four elements. It is only with accessibility to the strengths and characteristics of all four elements that we can live, act, and react in the world from a well-rounded and joyful place. In this workshop, we will take a truncated Element Designation Assessment Test (the full EDAT is available online and will be available in the forthcoming book), and we will assess each individual's element designations and potential element imbalances. Once those are established, we will develop a methodology that will allow participants to stabilize and then increase their connection to the elements they need in order to help them become fully well-rounded in all four elements and then therefore possess the accessibility to each whenever it is needed. We will then complete at least one of the Elemental missions, quests or meditations depending on the general needs of the participants. This is an introductory workshop to the Life Elements system as a precursor to the publication of the Life Elements book. Anyone who wishes to learn something about her or himself is welcome. Max class size: 15.

The Mysteries--Learning Through Experience - Whittney Matlock
In the world of the ancient Greeks, it was recognized in law that spiritual learning took two forms, low mysteries and high mysteries. Low mysteries were things which could be taught through reading and talking with others. These were safe to talk about and share with other. High mysteries, by contrast, were those understandings which can only be learned through personal experience. To even try to communicate these to another without the proper ritual was punishable by death. What does it mean to learn a mystery through experience? What do you understand about life and magik that you could only have learned through personal experience? How do we create these experiences for ourselves and others? In my coven, this is where ritual drama comes into play. Let's spend some time in the ancient grove of our ancestors and explore the nature of the high mysteries and how we can create them in our own magikal practice. [21+].

First Session: The first hour is free and open to all who wish to know more about Usui Reiki, a unique form of Japanese energy healing that is simple and yet powerfully effective. Reiki is not technique-driven or dependent on skill, intuition or spiritual abilities, but is activated through an 'attunement'--a process that enables universal energy to flow in abundance from the environment through your body and out of your hands. By simply placing the hands over yourself or others, a transfer of energy from the environment (not your own energy) allows the practitioner or recipient to experience greater peace, healing, pain relief, and wellbeing. Second Session: You must attend the first hour to attend the second hour, and a $25 manual/certification fee is payable at the beginning of this session. During the second hour, you will receive the Reiki attunement neccesary to perform Reiki on yourself and others, and have time to practice on self and others. Max class size: 10; Materials fee: $25.

Rites Of Passage; Walking the Path of Ordeal - Del
Many religions offer rituals to mark transitions in one's life. As we experience joy and sorrow, loss and gain, changes in who we are and what we believe, we seek out some form of expression to imbue our lives with a memory of that moment. For some, trials of ordeal can mark waypoints on their warrior path, or allow for a public release of grief, or a myriad of other situations. Come learn about the use of ordeal to help create new Rites of Passage in our lives. As this discussion will wander into territory around BDSM, body modification, and other adult forms of ordeal, this class is specifically for 18 and up. [18+].

Robin Hood, Lord of Summer - Stephen Winick
This workshop is open to anyone interested in Robin Hood, the archetypal Lord of Summer. The earliest surviving Robin Hood ballads begin with the words "in summer," and the earliest Robin Hood plays were part of summertime ritual observances. We'll look at Robin's connections to summertime rituals, including his central role in Maytime ritual and drama. We'll discuss Robin's connection with Paganism: his roots in Green Man and Wild man traditions; his background in Celtic and English mythology; and his dedication to the Divine Feminine in the forms of the Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, and his own Maid Marian. We'll also discuss the weird, wild world of the Robin Hood ballads: Robin's birth on the wrong side of a noblewoman's bed; his deeds both good and questionable; his savage battle with the bestial Guy of Gisbourne, his brief stint as a pirate-fighting sailor, and his death, foretold in ancient Celtic fashion by a 'washer at the ford.' Steve will sing his own settings of several Robin Hood Ballads, including some that are almost never performed, and he'll teach some choruses to the class.

Scarborough Faerie: Courtship, Sex and Riddles in Folksongs - Stephen Winick
Ever notice how strange the words of "Scarborough Fair" are? The ballad is about the weird tasks a suitor must accomplish before being accepted as a lover: finding an acre of land between the sea and the shore, reaping a field with a leather sickle, and other such impossibilities. Other famous songs ask riddles about chickens without bones and cherries without stones. To make matters more interesting, these riddles and tasks often involve fairies, elves, and Old Horny himself, the Devil. We'll look at the roots of these songs in folklore, and possibly in ancient Pagan courtship practices involving mysteries and ordeals designed to test the suitor's suitability. We'll also hear cool versions of lots of good songs.

Shamanic Astrology - Raven Kaldera
Astrology is a tool not only of divination, but of spiritual understanding... but far too often, novice astrologers get swamped and confused by all the abstract symbols, strange jargon, and shallow 'cookbook' descriptions. That's the 'scientific' way to learn astrology... but this workshop will talk about the shamanic way to learn it, which is all about understanding the myths and stories that the cosmic clock has to tell us, and how to work with them to change your life. We will also discuss such controversial shamanic aspects as remedies, propitiations, and astrological magic to bring the energy of certain planetary forces into your life. By the author of MythAstrology and Circle of Stars and Stones.

Pagan practices from Wicca and some African diaspora religions (Santeria, Umbanda, and Voudun) are compared with counseling psychology to discover similarities. Magic and Divine connection is not to be denied. Yet 'as Above so Below' -- that is, there's always a mundane world explanation for why things work that should not be overlooked. We will look at how the psychological concepts of locus of control, Gestalt subpersonalities, authority, belief, and projection may fit into magic, aspecting/divine embodiment, and other Pagan practices. Levels: All; Audiences: All; Prerequisites: None. Max class size: 10.

One aspect of this learning process is becoming familiar with spiritual anatomy or the nature of spirituality as it relates to us as physical beings. The focus of this course will be a survey of what is sometimes referred to as “The Seven Stages of Power and Healing” each of which is aligned with one of the Seven Chakras. Each of Seven Sacred Truths will be examined in more detail.

From medieval times to present, singing and dancing have been part of our celebrations of the seasons, especially spring and summer. Participants will be grouped by fours and a variety of energetic exercises will be demonstrated and experienced. Trance: The Power of Consciousness - Whittney Matlock
Every day of your life, you live in a state of trance. For most of us we move from one trance state to another without even realizing it. We get in a car and drive somewhere with little or no recognition of the journey. We interact with people we meet with little awareness of how we interact with them. Often we lose parts of a day and have no idea where they went. These are all symptoms of being in a trance state. Trance is simply the selection of what inputs we will give our attention to out of the millions of things that demand our attention every moment. This is a good thing; without it, we would be overwhelmed by the input of everyday life. The power of trance comes when we consciously select to what we give our attention. Spend some time playing around with your awareness of your trance states. Discover some new ones. Find out how you can consciously manipulate your state of consciousness though the power of your intent and a bit of practice. This session will not change your life; only you can do that. It will give you the tools to change it into what you choose. [18+].

One posture a day makes a yoga practice, and that one posture is so much easier when done with a group. Away from our normal supports, let's support each other in sticking with our practice. This time is for anyone interested in the practice of yoga postures, from beginner to advanced. We will spend half an hour together supporting each other in a few postures each day to help keep our minds and bodies flexible. If you have mats and belts, bring them along, or simply bring a towel and blanket. These practices will focus on standing and sitting postures that anyone can do.
